Albert Einstein’s “General Theory of Relativity” revealed that gravity is not a force, as Sir Isaac Newton predicted, but rather a consequence that results when space is warped.

To visualize what the warping of space looks like, imagine a bowling ball lying on a bed. How far the ball sinks into and distorts the mattress, depends upon the size and weight of the ball and the resistance of the mattress. The mass of a planet or star will warp space in much the same way. This warping produces a gravitational field around the object that influences other objects.

Could there also be a warping of our inner space? Something has to account for why one-third of this nation’s high school students drop out of school every year. Why half the country is on pain-killers and two-thirds of those released from prison—return to prison within months. Given our intelligence, there has to be a reason why we don’t do…what we know to do.

In one of his episodes, Sherlock Holmes, the famous storybook detective once said, “There is nothing as elusive as an obvious clue.” The clue to what warps your inner space is found in the context of those nighttime dreams that are chaotic and nonsensical. People, places, and things may not appear as they really are because your brain has the ability to take what is true and twist into something of its own making.

Now you may think, “So what? I’m awake, I’m in control. I know what’s going on.” But wait; there’s more! Much of what your brain does, it does in an area that you can’t reach…your subconscious. For example, at this very moment, your brain is regulating your mentality and physicalities, without you even knowing about it.

This sets the stage for something you might see in a sci-fi movie. Your brain having created, without your knowledge or permission, an image of who your brain thinks you are that communicates through the judgemental chatter-in-your-head. You know that voice; the one that warps your thinking by calling you, “dummy” and “stupid,” and says, “You don’t have what it takes, it’s their fault…so why try.”
